KWVH License to Cover
On February 25, 2016, just 13 months after receiving a construction permit to build a radio station, Wimberley Valley Radio was granted a "License to Cover" by the FCC. A license to cover is a regular license to operate KWVH 94.1 FM as a low power FM broadcasting station as specified in our license. Those licenses are issued for a period of 8 years and stations then can apply to renew their license. Can YOU volunteer, or donate? Can you commit to helping for the next six months? WVR needs volunteers as well as financial support. Our helps identify the many ways you can help. Please help us grow this station into a Wimberley treasure by contributing your time and creativity. Also, investing money in a way that suits your budget in this worthwhile nonprofit, all-volunteer, community radio station is an investment in safety and all things local. The task may seem daunting–but by breaking it down, and taking it step-by-step, Wimberley can have a community radio station that will provide helpful information in future emergency situations, to serve Wimberley in other ways, including discovering the wonderful people and stories of Wimberley in new ways.
Need for Broadcast Radio Station Clear
The flooding disaster illustrates the need
for a broadcast radio station for Wimberley like nothing else has done. The storm caused
widespread destruction that crippled Internet services of all local providers for 2-3
days. Broadcast radio here could have provided all the information governmental and first
responders were attempting to communicate to those affected by the
floods.
Therefore, Wimberley Valley Radio borrowed equipment, applied to the FCC for an emergency permit to broadcast to Wimberley for 30 days. At the time the station went on the air in early June 2015, Wimberley Valley Radio just had an FCC Construction Permit to build KWVH, 94.1 FM-LP for the Wimberley area. Broadcast equipment has been purchased and new studios built, and now we have our full license. Our most urgent near-term goal is to be able to broadcast live from our studios so that when the next emergency happens the community has time to prepare and moved to safety.
