Now that KWVH's new broadcast facility is nearing completion, operations are ramping up and additional help is needed. Volunteer receptionists who can commit to half a day a week are one immediate need. Contact Elaine Cardenas, at Elacard@aol.com, if you are interested in volunteering as a receptionist to help the station.

Each February, Wimberley Valley Radio holds a public meeting to update the community on recent activities, finances, and goals for the year. This year, WVR's annual meeting will be held at our nearly finished studios, which will provide a sneak preview of the station's broadcast facilities. The meeting will be held Monday, February 15, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at KWVH, 111 Old Kyle Road, Suite 108 in The Lumberyard. We hope you will plan to attend, see the station, and meet the volunteers, Board, and staff. Many thanks to Greg Gibson and his construction crew (Jim Motheral, Dwayne Brassow, Kevin Alexander and Ed Gawkoski) for their wonderful work on our studio build-out! With all their hard work and volunteer hours logged during the last few months, it won't be long before we are using our new offices.

Besides the music line-up, a number of noted artists will be providing demos. And the Kid's Activities Tent offers a number of creative art opportunities. The festival is free - but we invite participants to contribute to the ongoing flood relief effort. Donation buckets will be available for contributions. A number of local charities will have a presence in the vicinity. More information and maps to parking may be found on WimberleyAlive.org On October 30, Wimberley was struck by another devastating flood, this time causing severe damage along Cypress Creek, Woodcreek, and the downtown shopping district. That flooding prevented Wimberley Valley Radio personnel from reaching the studio and from reaching the transmitter. At this time, the equipment needed for emergency notifications, and remote live broadcasts, are ordered but haven't arrived. We are moving forward rapidly with completion of our broadcast studio.
It is terribly frustrating for all of the volunteers at KWVH and the Wimberley Valley Radio board of directors to be unable to communicate to the public in a severe flood emergency other than by Facebook and email. Please know that all volunteers are working diligently toward being a 24/7 live facility with remote broadcast capabilities as soon as possible. National Night Out for Texas is October 6, 2015, and Hays County will participate. It is America’s Night Out Against Crime, and has been held annually since 1984. The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch/Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts. Initially communities held lights-on vigils. Now, many communities hold block parties, festivals, and other events to help bring neighbors together.

As of today, Wimberley Valley Radio now is licensed by all three music rights organizations to broadcast. We plan to begin broadening and deepening the music offered. Interested in being a DJ on KWVH 94.1 FM? Propose a program (at http://www.wimberleyvalleyradio.org/propose-programs.html) provide sample playlists, and record a sample show.
On July 6, 2015, Wimberley Valley Radio submitted a 319 application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a "License to Cover." That is a regular broadcast license that will allow KWVH-LP to stay on the air for a period of 8 years. Licenses are subject to renewal every eight years.
The radio station would be licensed to broadcast on 94.1 FM at 26 watts of power. That application is now pending before the FCC. In the meantime the station is permitted to continue to broadcast under the original Limited Program Test Authority. KWVH 94.1 FM is seeking candidates to fill volunteer management positions. Now that the station is on the air, ramping up the programs offered is a top priority. Directors for the three major program areas (news, sports, and entertainment & music) are wanted. Directors will be instrumental in building each of those departments from the ground up, with advice and consent from the KWVH Programming Committee in consultation with the Station Manager. Job descriptions for those positions are available here. Please contact the station at wimberleyvalleyradio@gmail.com or (512) 722-3266 for more information or to find out how to apply.
