Our Policy

Pulling off building and operating a nonprofit, volunteer-based community radio station is tall order. More hands make the tasks ahead manageable. Not every small town could pull something like this off, but Wimberley has the people, talent, and can-do attitude to do it.

We are counting on our community!

The time is NOW to volunteer and 'find your fit' within this growing organization! There are so many opportunities to volunteer that it's hard to list them all! Volunteers aren't required to have previous experience but an aptitude for, or a particular skill set for the applied position is all that is required. Please note that Wimberley Valley Radio requires background checks of staff and volunteers. Since the station interacts with minors and other vulnerable populations, the Board of Directors adopted the requirement to provide protection to our staff, volunteers, and the vulnerable. Timesheets & Expenses

WVR needs to track all volunteer hours and expenses. Foundations and other grantors value the volunteer investment of time and energy, and look for the level of investment by volunteers in making funding decisions. All volunteers (including show hosts) need to track hours and expenses for each week on the Timesheet Web Form.

Volunteer Opportunities
Wimberley Valley Radio (KWVH 94.1 FM)

PROGRAMMING

Program Director: Oversees all programming on KWVH 94.1 FM and KWVH 941.1.com. Oversees all shows, talent, editors, show producers and news programs. Works closely with the Development Director to ensure that the underwriting message and programming sponsorships are executed flawlessly. Works with Station Manager, Development Director and Administrative Director on research. Provides data for the public file. Reports to Operations Manager. [Position P16-01]

Producers: Responsible for organizing and engineering the live or recorded broadcasts of a show, including music shows, talk shows or magazine format shows. Gives cues and guidance to the show talent, provides guests for the show, arranges scheduling of the show and may be involved in the editing of the show if it is pre-recorded. Producers will need to operate the console in the studio or at remote sites. (Training will be provided.) They also are responsible for updating the website when appropriate. Producers report to the Program Director. [Position P16-02]

Show Talent, Show Hosts, News Talent, Voice Talent: Show talent and hosts —AKA radio personalities, radio show hosts, DJs or air talent—are the on-air talent for the show. They have expertise on show topics such as gardening, aging, news, money and investments, local agriculture, local politics, Wimberley music, local sports, food, psychiatry and mental health, geriatrics, etc. Duties include hosting live broadcasts; emceeing events; making personal appearances; presenting theatre, music, concert or restaurant reviews. In addition voice talent is used to refresh top-of-the-hour IDs, underwriting messages, promotional announcements, weather updates, etc. Talent reports to the Program Director. [Position P16-03]

Editors: The editor’s primary job is to edit a digital recording of a show to cut out unwanted words and sounds and to ensure the show fits within the allotted time. Editors may use multiple formats of software, including Pro Tools. Editors will work primarily on local shows produced at KWVH, but there may be occasions when editing will be required to modify national programs. Editors need to know and understand the automation system KWVH uses to be able to insert their edited programs into it in cooperation with the Traffic Director. (Training will be provided.) Editors report to the Program Director. [Position P16-04]

Traffic Director: Traffic directors schedule the daily program logs and insert the parts of the program that change every day, including the scheduled underwriting messages, other sponsorship mentions, weather updates, EBS tests, pre-produced programs, as well as live programs. They also handle national syndicated programming. They report to the Program Director or Administrative Director. [Position P16-05]

PROMOTIONS

Promotion Director: Works with the programming team and the development team to manage radio promotion events at the station, public events and on air. The Promotion Director is responsible for promoting the image of the station internally and externally, from logo placement, to station vehicle placement, to remote station appearances. This person will oversee development of promotional materials and collateral. He/she will also be involved in developing promotional materials in newspapers, at local events, on social media and on the website. The Promotion Director reports to the Station Manager. [Position PR16-01]

Station Representatives (Promotion Team Members): These people assist in putting on events such as remote broadcasts, station appearances, station events, etc., handing out station information and collateral, answering questions, collecting donations, etc. Station Representatives report to the Promotion Director. [Position PR16-02]

ADMINISTRATION

Receptionists/Administrative Assistants: Receptionists will staff the reception desk, answer telephone calls, take messages, greet visitors, sort and log mail and perform other administrative duties as time permits. Those duties may include filing, entering data into a data base, inventory control, preparing letters for mailing or performing internet searches. Receptionists and Administrative Assistants report to Administrative Director. [Position A16-01]

General Helpers: These volunteers will help move equipment and furniture; deliver promotional materials to events and pick them up; set up and disassemble tables at events; assist the construction crew with lifting, painting and cleaning; and perform other duties as needed. Report to Administrative Director. [Position A16-02]
